Winnipeg Region Rail Port

The current business name is 10235642 Manitoba Inc. In the future, it will operate as the Winnipeg Region Rail Port (WRRP).
Cementing Manitoba as a Trade Power
Winnipeg Region Rail Port will be a state-of-the-art, multimodal rail hub in rural Manitoba, just south of Winnipeg. The Port is designed to improve connections from Manitoba businesses to global markets, to create jobs, and to drive economic growth in the region.
An Economic Cornerstone
Manitoba has always been a hub for trade and logistics. With potential connections to three Class I Railways, Winnipeg Region Rail Port will have unprecedented access to Canadian ports on the East Coast, West Coast, and Arctic Gateway, and it will support trade growth in key markets across North America. For industries like agriculture and manufacturing—cornerstones of Manitoba’s economy—reliable trade connections are essential.
Expansion Opportunities
With excellent rail, road, and highway access, Winnipeg Region Rail Port will help ensure Manitoba remains a continental industry leader in logistics and supply chain. And with an abundance of development opportunities on-site, the Port will offer new and growing businesses a chance to operate or expand in Manitoba, further enhancing the province’s economy and making it more resilient to shifts in the geopolitical trade market.

The site will include Manitoba’s first Eco-Industrial Park, which is a modern model of industrial park that emphasizes efficient use of resources, sustainable growth, and collaboration among businesses. An Eco-Industrial Park’s primary objectives are to:
- Maximize efficiencies by creating a cumulative footprint and centralizing services such as storage, water, and waste management.
- Minimize environmental impacts by requiring that businesses commit to practices such as low-impact development, renewable clean energy use, and participation in the circular economy.
- Create community benefits such as providing opportunities for local training and employment, and contributing to social wellbeing.
A Strategic Advantage

- The Winnipeg Region Rail Port will be located about 25 kilometres south of Winnipeg, in the Rural Municipality of Ritchot.
- Research into a suitable site began in 2017, and the Ritchot lands were identified in 2020.
- In 2023, the Province of Manitoba approved $18 million of funding for JohnQ to secure the land, advance environmental and other studies, engage consultants, and select a development partner.
- This location is close to major sources of grain and minerals, two drivers of Manitoba’s economy. Crucially, it is situated along some of the most strategically significant trade corridors in North America, offers unique access to three Class I Railways, and can directly connect to highways to further link key supply and consumption markets.
Economic
Development Abound
At more than 1,000 acres, the site
allows for a variety of development opportunities that will enhance how business and trade is conducted in Manitoba. Some examples of the
types of developments under consideration include:
- Large, unit train processing
and handling facilities - Single-car industrial, manufacturing, and logistics firms
- Multi-modal transloading
- Businesses relocated from
urban Winnipeg - New-to-market economic
development opportunities

Winnipeg sits at the confluence of three Class I Railways. Between the three,
Winnipeg Region Rail Port would have access to more than 71,500 route miles and five gateways into Mexico, offering businesses unprecedented access to vital markets and ports in Canada and across North America, including:
- Western Canada
- Eastern Canada
and the Maritimes - The Arctic Gateway
- Mid-America and the Pacific coast
- Mexico
Winnipeg Region Rail Port will provide customers with world-class access to rail services, key trade corridors, and global supply chains. The site will help economic development in the region thrive and ensure that rail Manitoba businesses
have efficient, flexible, and competitive options to get their product to market.

This is the Manitoba difference.
Nowhere else in Canada provides the same level of access to Class I Railways as Winnipeg, and tapping into that advantage will help give Manitoban businesses a leg up and boost the province’s economic resilience.
