Community Energy Lead Program

The JQ Community Energy Lead Program is a collaborative initiative between JohnQ Public and Efficiency Manitoba that supports communities across the province in improving energy efficiency, reducing costs, and making a tangible impact across the province contributing to a more sustainable and prosperous future for Manitoba. Through this initiative, the JQ Community Energy Lead works directly with participating municipal partners to identify opportunities for energy and cost savings in publicly owned buildings and infrastructure. The program focuses on practical, community driven solutions, supporting upgrades, retrofits, and infrastructure improvements that reduce energy consumption and deliver lasting benefits.

Supporting Local Infrastructure

The program is currently assessing a wide range of facilities across JohnQ’s member municipalities. These include, but are not limited to:

  • 45 Community Halls and Centres
  • 17 Arenas
  • 8 Curling Rinks
  • 8 Libraries
  • 6 Landfills and Transfer Stations

These are just a few examples of the facilities being reviewed to uncover opportunities for energy savings, lower operating costs, and improved environmental performance. By pooling the infrastructure needs of multiple municipalities, the program also leverages economies of scale unlocking cost efficiencies through joint planning, coordinated procurement, and shared expertise. The JQ Community Energy Lead Program is designed to build local capacity and deliver real, measurable improvements, helping communities save money, reduce emissions, and invest in a more sustainable and resilient Manitoba for all.
